Public Files
Methods:
Temperatures are recorded once per day at 08:00 EST using a standard set of U.S. National Weather Service approved minimum-maximum thermometers. A mercury thermometer indicates the maximum temperature and an alcohol thermometer indicates the minimum temperature observed since the last reset. After recording the minimum and maximum temperature both thermometers are reset and the current temperature is observed. The mercury thermometer is reset by spinning. The alcohol thermometer is reset by tipping. Resets occur every 24 hours.
